It was my own struggles with breastfeeding that highlighted the need for more support in this area. I was successful in meeting my own breastfeeding goals because of the one on one support I received from my midwives and from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). Was it easy? No. I struggled when my first two children would not latch but my supporters believed it was possible and so, I persisted.
As a graduate of the International Breastfeeding Centre I completed my clinical placement at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic. I obtained over 500 hours working with breastfeeding families under the direct supervision of IBCLCs and pediatricians (including Dr. Jack Newman). I passed the certifying exam on my birthday and am now an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and staff at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic.
